  • Popis: Athens, 1961. Alekos, son of the moneylender Lampros Kontarinis, meets Dora Fotiou, who grew up in an institution, studies law and is tortured by the strange image of a frightened girl on a deserted road. In time, the two young people fall in love and get married. Dora gets her degree and finds a job at a law firm, where she is assigned the defense of an elderly woman, Martha, who is accused of sacrilege. This case helps her realize that the frightened girl is herself, and that Martha is her mother, who was lost in the Occupation. The man responsible for all this was her father-in-law, a black marketeer who had seized their homestead and was the reason behind her father’s death in the German concentration camps. Martha dies, but Dora, having faith in justice and with Alekos’ full support, stands up against the all-powerful Kontarinis. She wins her fight and changes her homestead into a center for the poor and powerless.
